The Slovak Energy Brigades started their work in 1996.
Slovakia is among those countries in Central Europe applying to enter into the European Union. The energy sector was heavily re-organised in the mid-90s. As a result, energy saving really pays nowadays in a comparable way as in Western Europe and North America. Although energy efficiency as a central idea is rather well known in Slovakia, still little people, organisations and institutions implement energy saving technology.
The Slovak Energy Brigades show models in which a lot of energy can be saved with simple technical means. It focuses on low-income groups in society. For these groups, the financial savings gained with the energy brigades really makes a difference.
Secondary result is that the involved authorities, parents and inhabitants are increasingly aware of sustainable energy use.
